Sun discs, made of decorated thin gold sheet, were among the first types of gold jewellery made during the Bronze Age. This was the period when gold production first began and gradually reached a superior standard of metallurgy and artistic excellence. Sun discs were discovered at Rappa Castle, Crossmolina, dating back to 2200 1800 BC. The decorations on these discs are similar to those on the cross Nike Vapormax Asphalt

Another find in Mayo from the Bronze Age was the Carrowneden log boat. Discovered in 1996 on the margins of Mannin Lake, near Ballyhaunis, the boat dates back 4,000 years. Although only a portion survives some 5 m (16.4 ft) long and 1 m (3.3 ft) wide it was clearly a large vessel and probably served a variety of functions, such as transporting turf, animals, people and their goods along the rivers and lakes of prehistoric Mayo.
The Bronze Age in Ireland lasted from about 2000 500 BC. The Bronze Age lacks the massive importance on passage tombs which characterised the Neolithic. However megalithic tombs may have continued into the later Bronze and Iron Ages. Others, notably wedge tombs, may first have been constructed in the Bronze Age. But as time went on, the communal megalithic tombs were replaced by simpler, stone lined burial chambers, known as cists. Each consisted of a 'coffin' Nike Vapormax Men Shoes
to mark the location of burial tombs or acted as commemoration stones or been the location and object of ritual practices. Some standing stones have been marked with the earliest Irish system of writing Ogham, dated to the 4th and 5th centuries. Ogham writing consisted of an alphabet of originally 20, and later 25, letters formed as slashes of varying lengths which were incised on standing stones. These stones were most likely for marking memorials or boundaries. Breastagh Ogham stone, near Lacken Bay, is a Bronze Age standing stone , some 3 m (9 ft) high, which was later incised with Ogham inscriptions.
made of stone slabs lining the inside of the dug out grave, which was then covered over by rounded earth or a cairn of loose stones. The cremated human remains were placed in the cist, often accompanied by pottery and other objects. A series of cist graves has been found on an esker ridge at Ballinachalla, between Cong and Ballinrobe, dating to 2000 BC. Archaeologists discovered cremated bones, an inverted vase urn, a lidded vase and a flint knife in these graves.
Stone circles generally date from the early Bronze Age (post 2000BC) and consist of near circular enclosures built of large upright stones set at prescribed distances from each other. They may have been used for ceremonial purposes and human burials. Mayo has many fine stone circles, including Dooncarton in Erris; Rathfran in north Mayo, consisting of sixteen stones, five of which now Nike Vapormax Oreo lie flat; and a group of three Nymphsfield, Tonaleeaun and the Glebe outside Cong village.
